Volunteer Position Descriptions
Mobile Adoption Ambassador
Volunteer one Saturday afternoon a month to showcase our foster animals at the Pet Supplies Plus store in Westerville from noon to 4PM. Once a month we place our adoptable fosters on display in order that potential adopters can meet them in person and see how friendly and adorable they are. The fosters would be dropped off at your house, or at PSP, the morning of the event, You would assist in transporting display cages & animals to the store, set up the display, and monitor the booth introducing our adorables to potential pet-parents. During your initial event you’ll be mentored during the entire process and as for as many events afterwards as needed. We want you to be as comfortable as possible in the role before assuming the responsibility. Responsibilities: Assist with or transport tables and display cages to PSP site. Respond to store customers that inquire about HSofMC or its animals (no pressure sales!) Requirements: 18 years of age or older Time Commitment: Six hours per month |
Fostering
Because the HSofMC has no physical site, foster families play a pivotal role in our mission to save the life of every adoptable animal and tomorrow’s best friends. Although fostering can take a great deal of time and commitment, it can be an incredibly rewarding experience. You are temporarily providing a needy animal with a loving home environment and helping that animal become more suitable for adoption into a responsible, lifelong home. When we have an animal that we feel would benefit from fostering, you will be contacted and given specifics regarding the animal, the estimated amount of time it will need to be fostered, and the necessary care it is to receive. If you are able to foster the animal, a time will be arranged for you to pick up the animal from the vet, or the Foster Coordinator will bring it to your home along with instructions for its care. HSofMC will provide you with all the necessary food, equipment, and medication (if required) you will need while the foster animal is in your care. All you will need to provide is the TLC. You may be asked to return the animal to HSofMC designated veterinarian clinic periodically for routine vaccinations, examination, and spay/neuter, as needed. Responsibilities: House shelter animal(s) until ready for adoption. Animals are either recovering from illness, pregnant, not socialized, or too young. HSofMC provides all necessary food, equipment, and medication. Requirements: 18 years of age; Ability to care for animals with special needs; Ability to transport animal to veterinarian as needed. Landlord authorization (if applicable) Time Commitment: Varies depending on needs of animal |
Fundraising Coordinator
Is fundraising a piece of cake for you? Would you like to jump-start fundraising programs that will help bring us donations? If this sounds appealing, or if you have fundraising writing experience, we are in need of your skills. Responsibilities: Assist the PR Special Events Director with annual events like Photos with Santa, Annual Bath Bash, HSofMC Craft Bazaar or other seasonal events. There are a variety of volunteer opportunities available year round including: festivals & events in the community and promotions at area pet stores. Requirements: 16 years of age or younger volunteering with a parent Time Commitment: Determined by volunteer |
Grant Coordinator
Grant Coordinators seek out and apply for financial grants to help support the HSofMC and our causes. HSofMC’s budget is funded exclusively from local fundraising activities, membership dues, adoption fees, donations, and grants to accomplish its mission. The County and local government agencies provide no funds to help with our mission and projects. As such, a grant coordinator seeks out financial opportunities offered by organizations that help support humane efforts and submits applications to tell them of our story. Grant writing involves writing proposals defining our purpose, need, and provides documentation of our organization. Mentoring will be provided throughout the entire process. No traveling required, this can be done entirely from your home using email and the internet. Responsibilities: Perform research to locate organizations and corporations with grants available to non-profit organizations that request them. Write and submit requests documenting our organizations goals and projects. Follow up on requests previously submitted request and respond to grantors that require additional information. Requirements: 18 years of age Time Commitment: Determined by volunteer but generally 2 to 6 hours per month |

These ambassadors help us get more animals out the door and increase the number of community members who know about our animals waiting for homes. Because all of our animals are in foster care, you would work with each foster parent to obtain photos of the animal and information on its unique personality. This is a position in which a little creativity can have positive benefits for our animals. Currently the majority of our adoption marketing is done via Facebook and PetFinder.com but we’re always looking for individuals with fresh ideas on informing the public of how special our animals are!
