Mrs Martin's fourth grade class at the Park Avenue Elementary School in Mt.Gilead, surprised the HSOFMC with a Christmas party on December 19! Guests attending were HSOFMC board members: Dr. William Talyor, DVM(ret.) who was escorted his dog Ace, a Giant Schnauzer; Sue Corbin was escorted by Trixie, a Beagle mix, Patty Mills was escorted by Lewis, a Labrador mix, and also attending was Martha J.Sayers.

Many interesting and thoughtful questions were asked by the students concerning the care of animals; where do we keep the dogs and cats; what happens to them if we can not find them a home; what to do when someone is abusing or neglecting an animal; why do people treat the animals so mean; what was rabies and distemper; do we have horses or cows or pigs; is it hard to let a foster dog/cat go to their adoptive homes and where do all these dogs and cats come from?

Ace, Lewis and Trixie had great fun mingling with the students, getting hugs and giving out doggie kisses! It was heartwarming to have the students ask such good questions. Many of the children shared stories about their pet, how much they loved them, their antics and how the wonderful animals came to be their pets.

And to our surprise and delight, the students had decided not to exchange Christmas gifts, but instead, collected $62.00 as a donation and brought gifts for the dogs and cats! There were dog and cat collars, leashes, food, litter boxes, liners, paper towels, training pads, carriers, towels, blankets, toys, and scooby-snacks - yum yum!

The children presented us with wonderful pictures they had colored of dogs and cats! We are working to place these delightful pictures on our web site for all to see. As a extra gift of love by these students, T-shirts were presented to us stating that "The Humane Society of Morrow County is supported by Mrs. Martin 4th grade class, Park Avenue Elementary School, Mt.Gilead, Ohio" ----- COOL BEANS!

It was a pretty amazing Christmas surprise and touched our hearts so much. It was simply a wonderful time and will be remembered for many years to come. And most of all, the animals thank you too!

Kudos for Mrs. Martin's fourth grade class! The animals and HSOFMC, thank you so much for caring! You have helped to make the world a better place!
